Slovakia Inflation Rate at 2.90 percent
Slovakia's consumer price inflation rose to 2.9 percent in September 2019 from 2.8 percent in the previous month and matching market expectations, mainly due to prices of miscellaneous goods & services (3.8% vs 3.5% in August); transport (0.4% vs -1.9%) and education (4.8% vs 1.5%). Meantime, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (at 3.8%); communication (at 2.3%) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (at 2.8%). On the other hand, prices slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (4.9% vs 5.2%); clothing & footwear (0.9% vs 1.7%); recreation & culture (1.6% vs 1.8%) and restaurants & hotels (1.3% vs 3.7%). The core inflation, which excludes volatile items, rose to 2.6 percent, it highest level in nearly a year, from 2.4 percent in August, slightly above forecasts of 2.5 percent. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.1 percent and the core index advanced 0.2 percent.
