Botswana Inflation Rate Lowest since 1997
The annual inflation rate in Botswana fell further to 2.1 percent in November 2019 from 2.4 percent in the previous month. This was the lowest inflation rate since at least January 1997, amid a slowdown in prices of transport (1.4 percent vs 2.6 percent in October) and housing & utilities (1.4 percent vs 1.6 percent). In contrast, cost rose faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.7 percent vs 2.5 percent). At the same time, inflation remained steady for miscellaneous goods & services (at 5.5 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (at 3.9 percent) and education (at 3.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.1 percent, after being flat in the prior month.

Botswana Inflation Rate Lowest since 1997
The annual inflation rate in Botswana fell to 2.4 percent in October 2019 from 3 percent in the previous month. This is the lowest inflation rate since at least January of 1997, as prices slowed mostly for transport (2.6 percent vs 6.2 percent in September). On the other hand, inflation remained steady for food & non-alcoholic beverages (at 2.5 percent) while it rose slightly for housing & utilities (1.6 percent vs 1.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.1 percent, the same pace as in the previous month.

Botswana Inflation Rate Quickens to 6-Month High
The annual inflation rate in Botswana rose to 3.0 percent in September 2019 from 2.9 percent in the previous month. This is the highest inflation rate since March, mainly due to prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.5 percent vs 2.0 percent in August); transport (6.2 percent, the same pace pace as in the prior month) and miscellaneous goods & services (5.1 percent vs 5.0 percent). However, cost slowed for housing & utilities (1.6 percent vs 1.8 percent); furnishings (2.1 percent vs 2.2 percent) and health (0.9 percent vs 1.1 percent). Also, inflation was steady for clothing & footwear (at 1.2 percent); recreation & culture (at 0.1 percent) and education (at 3.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent, the same pace as in the previous month.

Botswana August Inflation Rate Steady at 2.9%
The annual inflation rate in Botswana was at 2.9 percent in August 2019, unchanged from the previous month. Prices advanced further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (2 percent vs 1.6 percent in July); transport (6.2 percent vs 6 percent); clothing & footwear (1.2 percent vs 0.9 percent); and restaurants & hotels (2.3 percent vs 2.2 percent). Meanwhile, cost of furnishings & household equipment eased (2.2 percent vs 2.3 percent); and inflation was steady for housing & utilities (at 1.8 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (at 5.0 percent); health (at 1.1 percent); recreation & cultures (at 0.1 percent); and education (at 3.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.1 percent, slowing from a 0.2 percent gain in the prior month.

Botswana Inflation Rate at 4-Month High of 2.9%
The annual inflation rate in Botswana edged up to 2.9 percent in July 2019 from 2.8 percent in the prior month, hitting its highest level since March. Main upward pressure came from food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.6 percent vs 1.3 percent in June); housing & utilities (1.8 percent vs 1.7 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (5.0 percent vs 4.8 percent) and transport (6 percent, the same pace as in the prior month). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.2 percent, the same pace as in the previous two months.

Botswana June Inflation Rate at 3-Month High
The annual inflation rate in Botswana rose to 2.8 percent in June 2019 from 2.6 percent in the previous month. Prices went up further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.3 percent vs 1 percent in May); furnishings & household equipment (2.1 percent vs 1.6 percent); and health (1.2 percent vs 1 percent). Also, cost of recreation & culture rose (0.2 percent vs a flat reading) and prices of communication declined less (-0.1 percent vs -9.3 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for transport (6 percent vs 7.7 percent); and restaurants & hotels (2.3 percent vs 2.5 percent). In addition, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (at 1.7 percent, the same as in May); miscellaneous goods & services (at 4.8 percent); clothing & footwear (at 1.1 percent); and education (at 3.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 0.2 percent, the same pace as in May.
