Macau Posts Largest Trade Gap in Near 5 Years
Macau's trade deficit widened to MOP 7.59 billion in October 2019 from MOP 7.36 billion a year earlier. This was the largest trade gap since December 2014. Year-on-year, exports rose 9.6 percent to MOP 1.17 billion, mainly driven by re-exports (10.9%), as machines, apparatus & parts and diamond & garments, not knitted or crocheted jumped by 34.7% and 72.9%, respectively. Sales increased to Hong Kong (8.5%), the USA (194.4%),the EU (16.1%) but plunged to China (-24.4%). Meanwhile, imports rose 3.90 percent to MOP 8.76 billion, weighed up by food & beverages (17.7%), beauty, cosmetic/skin-care products (60%), and gold jewelry (3.3%). Purchases went up from the EU (27.6%), and Japan (8.3%), but fell from China (-3.7%), Hong Kong (-15.1%). Considering the first ten months of 2019, exports grew 4.3 percent from a year earlier to MOP 10.56 billion, while imports fell 1.8 percent to MOP 72.75 billion, bringing a trade gap of MOP 62.19 billion.

Macau Trade Gap Narrows in September
Macau's trade deficit narrowed slightly to MOP 6.53 billion in September 2019 from MOP 6.62 billion a year earlier. Year-on-year, exports rose 9.2 percent to MOP 1.02 billion. Exports increased for machines, apparatus & parts and accessories thereof (3.5%), footwear (641.2%), and garments, knitted or crocheted (45.7%). Sales rose to Hong Kong (11.3 percent), the US (468.3%), but declined to China (-27.5%), the EU (-47.1 percent). Meanwhile, imports edged down 0.1 percent to MOP 7.55 billion. Purchases dropped from Hong Kong (-19.5%), Japan (-38.3%), but rose from the EU (14.3%), the US (24.0%), and China (0.5 percent). Considering the first nine months of 2019, exports grew 3.6 percent from a year earlier to MOP 9.39 billion, while imports fell 2.5 percent to MOP 64.07 billion, bringing a trade gap of MOP 54.68 billion.

Macau Posts Largest Trade Gap in 7 Months
Macau's trade deficit widened slightly to MOP 6.60 billion in August 2019 from MOP 6.52 billion a year earlier. This was the largest trade gap since January, as exports fell more than imports. Year-on-year, exports fell 8.8 percent to MOP 0.93 billion, mainly dragged by re-exports (-11.9%), with that of machines, apparatus & parts and diamond & diamond jewelry tumbled by 41.6% and 34.7%, respectively. Sales dropped to China (-27.6%), Hong Kong (-13.1 percent), but surged to the US (637.1%), the EU (38.1 percent). Meanwhile, imports dropped at a softer 0.60 percent to MOP 7.50 billion, weighed down by food & beverages (-1.3%), garment & footwear (-4.6%), and gold jewelry (-26.1%). Purchases dropped from Hong Kong (-29%) and Japan US (-18.1%), but rose from the EU (0.9%). Considering the first eight months of 2019, exports grew 3.0 percent from a year earlier to MOP 8.37 billion, while imports fell 2.5 percent to MOP 56.67 billion, bringing a trade gap of MOP 48.30 billion.

Macau Trade Gap Narrows 5.5% YoY in July
Macau's trade deficit narrowed to MOP 6.16 billion in July 2019 from MOP 6.52 billion a year earlier. Year-on-year, exports advanced 13.6 percent to MOP 1.04 billion, mainly driven by re-exports (16%), with that of cosmetic & skin-care products and diamond & diamond jewelry surging by 230.6% and 166.1%, respectively. Sales grew to the US (5.3%) and the EU (96.2%), but tumbled to China (-18.7%). Meanwhile, imports shrank 3.2 percent to MOP 7.2 billion, weighed down by mobile phones (-54.4%), construction materials (-41.1%), and gold jewelry (22.9%). Purchases dropped from China (-1.8%) and the US (-7.2%), but rose from the EU (17.8%). Considering the first seven months of 2019, exports grew 4.7 percent from a year earlier to MOP 7.44 billion, while imports fell 2.2 percent to MOP 49.48 billion, bringing a trade gap of MOP 42.04 billion.

Macau Posts Smallest Trade Gap in 4 Months
Macau's trade deficit narrowed to MOP 5.75 billion in June 2019 from MOP 6.12 billion a year earlier. This was the smallest trade gap since February. Year-on-year, exports tumbled 14.3 percent to MOP 0.91 billion. Outbound shipments shrank to China (-34.8 pct), and the EU (-47.2 pct) but rose to the US (0.4 pct). Meanwhile, imports fell at a softer 7.3 percent to MOP 6.66 billion Purchases dropped from China (-12.1 pct), but increased from the US (33.3 pct), the EU (4.0 pct). Considering the first half of the year, exports grew 3.3 percent from a year earlier to MOP 6.40 billion, while imports dropped 1.7 percent to MOP 42.42 billion, bringing a trade gap of MOP 36.02 billion.

Macau Trade Gap Widens in May
Macau's trade deficit widened to MOP 6.35 billion in May 2019 from MOP 5.94 billion a year earlier. Year-on-year, exports slumped 15.5 percent to MOP 0.91 billion, dragged down by both re-exports (-15.7 pct) and domestic sales (-14.5 pct). Outbound shipments shrank to China (-17.3 pct) and Hong Kong (-24.9 pct), but rose to the US (18.37 pct)and the EU (32.5 pct). Meanwhile, imports advanced 3.5 percent to MOP 7.26 billion, led by cosmetic & skin-care products (29.3 pct), watches (17.7 pct) and food & beverages (9.2 pct). Purchases went up from the US (27.3 pct), the EU (19.3 pct) and Hong Kong (3.1 pct), but fell from China (-8.8 pct pct). Considering the first five months of the year, exports grew 7 percent from a year earlier to MOP 5.5 billion, while imports dropped 0.4 percent to MOP 35.83 billion, bringing a trade gap of MOP 30.33 billion.
