This marked the largest deficit on record, as the goods account deficit increased to EUR 2.80 billion from EUR 2.68 billion, while the primary income deficit expanded to EUR 1.20 billion from EUR 1.0 billion. Moreover, the secondary income account recorded a deficit of EUR 0.12 billion, shifting from a surplus of EUR 0.54 billion a year earlier. In contrast, the services account surplus inched up to EUR 0.99 billion from EUR 0.98 billion. For the January–July period, the current account deficit totaled EUR 16.29 billion, up from EUR 15.71 billion in the same period last year.
