New Zealand Food Inflation Ticks Down to 2.4%
Food prices in New Zealand increased 2.4 percent year-on-year in November of 2019, easing from a 2.5 percent rise in the previous month. Prices slowed for the grocery food (1.9 percent vs 2.1 percent in October), namely cakes & biscuits (3.8 percent vs 7.2 percent); non-alcoholic beverages (1 percent vs 2.7 percent); and restaurant meats & ready-to-go food (3.3 percent vs 3.4 percent). In contrast, cost of fruit & vegetables rebounded (0.4 percent vs -0.2 percent), and prices advanced further for meat, poultry & fish (4.7 percent vs 4.2 percent), in particular meant & poultry (4.5 percent vs 4.3 percent). On a monthly basis, food prices declined 0.7 percent, after falling 0.3 percent in October.

New Zealand Food Inflation Rises Further
Food prices in New Zealand increased 2.5 percent year-on-year in October of 2019, after a 2.2 percent rise in the previous month. It was the highest inflation since October 2017 and was mainly nudged by restaurant meals and ready-to-eat foods (up 3.4 percent) and grocery food (up 2.1 percent). Meanwhile, meat, poultry, and fish prices also increased 4.2 percent, as bacon prices jumped 24 percent following the outbreak of African swine fever in China, while ham prices rose 22 percent. In contrast, fruit and vegetables were the only group to decrease (-0.2 percent). On a monthly basis, food prices declined 0.3 percent after remaining flat in September.

New Zealand Food Inflation at Near 1-1/2-Year High
Food prices in New Zealand increased 2.2 percent year-on-year in September of 2019, after a 2.1 percent rise in the previous month. It was the highest food inflation since April last year, as cost advanced further for restaurant meals & ready-to-eat food (3.3 percent vs 3.1 percent in August), namely takeaway food (5.8 percent); and non-alcoholic beverages (1.9 percent vs 1.2 percent). Additionally, prices of fruit & vegetable dropped less (-1 percent vs -4.6 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for meat, poultry & fish (5.3 percent vs 8.0 percent) and grocery food (1.6 percent vs 2 percent). On a monthly basis, food prices were flat, following a 0.7 percent gain in the prior month.

New Zealand Food Inflation Jumps to 16-Month High
Food prices in New Zealand increased 2.1 percent year-on-year in August of 2019, after a 0.9 percent rise in the previous month. It was the highest food inflation since April last year, as prices advanced further for meat, poultry & fish (8 percent vs 5.4 percent in July); restaurant meals & ready-to-eat food (3.1 percent vs 3 percent). In addition, cost of non-alcoholic beverages rebounded (1.2 percent vs -1.1 percent) and prices of fruit & vegetables fell less (-4.6 percent vs -9.3 percent). On the other hand, grocery food prices slowed (2 percent vs 2.1 percent), namely bread & cereals (2.3 percent vs 2.9 percent) and oil & fats (-3.1 percent vs -0.4 percent). On a monthly basis, food prices went up 0.7 percent, easing from a 1.1 percent increase in the prior month.

New Zealand Food Inflation Rises to 0.9% in July
Food prices in New Zealand increased 0.9 percent year-on-year in July of 2019, after a 0.5 percent rise in the previous month. Prices advanced faster for meat, poultry & fish (5.4 percent vs 2.8 percent in June) and for grocery food (2.1 percent vs 1.8 percent). On the other hand, restaurant meals cost slowed (3.0 percent vs 3.4 percent) while prices continued to decline for fruit & vegetables (-9.3 percent vs -8.8 percent) and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.1 percent vs -0.8 percent). On a monthly basis, food prices went up 1.1 percent, rebounding from a 0.7 percent drop in June.

New Zealand Food Inflation Slows to 0.5% in June
Food prices in New Zealand increased 0.5 percent year-on-year in June of 2019, slowing from a 1.7 percent rise in the previous month. It was the lowest food inflation rate in seven months, mostly due to cost of fruits and vegetables (-8.8 percent vs -1.4 percent in May) and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.8 percent vs 0.7 percent). In contrast, prices advanced further for restaurant meals (3.4 percent vs 3.2 percent); meat, poultry & fish (2.8 percent vs 2.7 percent); and grocery (1.8 percent vs 1.7 percent). On a monthly basis, food prices went down 0.7 percent after a 0.7 percent in the prior month.
